Fundamentals of Sound Design Extended Brief
Through this workshop, participants will be introduced to the hidden yet deeply moving world of sound and acoustic vibrations. This workshop teaches sound beyond the context of music, allowing participants who may not have a musical background to develop a practice of sound design.
Participants in this workshop will learn to:
• Identify three fundamental attributes of sound: frequency, amplitude, and phase.
• Generate sounds using a variety of both analog and digital synthesis methods.
• Understand the basics of VCV Rack, a virtual modular synthesis environment.
While participants will have the opportunity to learn using physical synthesizers, it is recommended that they bring a laptop with a copy of the free program VCV Rack to enhance their hands-on interaction.
The workshop will conclude with an extended communal drone session, during which participants can immediately apply the skills they have learned to create a sonic artwork.
